In 2004 Liam's debut CD, "Verge," received the "Record of the Year" award from Radio Six International in the U.K. Verge was produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth and includes many fine performances by some of America's top roots, rock and jamband musicians.
In noting the rich "multi-dimensionality" of Verge, Zeitgeist Magazine writes "for once eclectic is not a dirty word." Each track is unique with the artier, edgier tracks coming first and the more mainstream tracks coming later. Here are the track descriptions:
1. Eagle and Snake (spoken word jazz-rock) 2. Burning Blue (adult pop-rock) 3. nemOmen (Expressionist art-rock) 4. Man Woman Child (cosmic world-fusion) 5. Tongue Inside the Bell (blues-folk-Latin-pop) 6. Manitoulin (cosmic western) 7. Should Have Known (classic retro pop) 8. Please Tell Me (pop) 9. Smiling Faces (sunshine pop) 10. No Doubt About It (pop)
This is what the reviewers wrote about Verge:
||"an absolute gem, which you really need to hear"|| ||"an aural treat by any standards"|| ||"should be all over the radio"|| ||"captivating"|| ||"fascinating"|| ||"multi-dimensional"|| ||"a unique approach to music"|| ||"mightily impressed by a new talent"|| ||"Liam's guitar work is stunning, his singing superb"|| ||"a great sense of rhythm"|| ||"his rich, deep voice brings out another dimension from the songs"|| ||"classy, excellent tunes!"|| ||"jangle-tastic"|| ||"tumultuous and satisfying"|| ||"VERY cool"|| ||"richly creative"|| ||"these songs are anything but dull"||
Special thanks for their work on Verge goes to multi-instrumentalists Andy Goessling, Tim Carbone and Buck Dilly and also to guitarist Moris Tepper (PJ Harvey, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, Frank Black) and his band from California. On the tech side we would like to thank sound engineer Don Sternecker and also Fred Kevorkian who did the mastering, just as he has done for Phish, Sonic Youth, Dave Matthews, The White Stripes, Lou Reed, Lenny Kravitz, LL Cool J, Ryan Adams and more.
